What do our algorithms say about our society? In this talk, social scientist Safiya Umoja Noble investigates the bias revealed in search engine results and argues why we have to be skeptical of the algorithms we rely upon every day.

Dr. Safiya Umoja Noble's academic research focuses on the design of digital media platforms on the internet and their impact on society. Her latest book is titled Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Critical Library and Information Studies.
