Minecraft: Block Age Comparison (2020)

What is the oldest block in Minecraft? When was lava or water added to the game? How old are redstone and pistons? Let's answer these questions and compare the ages of Minecraft blocks!

In this comparison video, I look at the ages of different Minecraft blocks! I compare them, and we're going to discover together how old the oldest block in Minecraft really is! And on the way there, we are going to compare all blocks in the game, from netherrack and end stone to the sapling and ender dragon egg!

Disclaimer: No one is without fault, and although I do my best researching for videos like this, something may have slipped by me. So, the block ages in this video may be incorrect. You can find a link that lists my online sources below.

I'm not gonna lie, this video was a bit of a pain to make. It took forever, and I really mean FOREVER, to get all the images to use in this video. I ended up with over 1300 images of just block icons. And then I had to research the history of all the blocks. Before I started working on this video, I still had the naive thought that I could get the video done fairly quickly, but OH BOY, WAS I WRONG.

To get the images, I made screenshots from the Minecraft inventory in different Minecraft versions, cut the icons out, ordered them and scaled them up using a program I wrote. I made a lot of effort to get all the icons fairly accurate to how the blocks looked when they were first added to the game. But there are quite a few instances, where I couldn't get my hand on the right textures for certain Minecraft versions, so you get the closest images I could get.

Well, anyway. It's done. And I'm done as well. Now scroll upwards, and enjoy me comparing the age of a zillion Minecraft blocks in this video! From fire and command blocks, to mob spawners and cobblestone, this video compares them all. Well, you get the idea. Now hush, hush, watch the video!!
