Slave - Party Lites (Dave Lee fka Joey Negro Boogiefied Mix)

Available now - https://www.zrecords.ltd.uk/new-releases

Slave will always hold a special place in my heart. I first discovered their unique brand of bass heavy boogie funk via 1980s Stone Jam album which included their classic “Watching You”. That record saw a lot of action on my Toshiba Music Centre and they soon became my favourite band. I have to name check bassist Marc Adams (RIP) whose playing was a big part of their sound. “Party Lites” is from 81’s “Showtime” LP featuring Steve Arrington on vocals and has an appropriately celebratory mood. I was surprised to find that it was a 48-track recording with stuff dotted around all over the place. It took me much longer than normal to sift through what was there and locate everything that was used on the released version. When I remix a personal favourite track like this I sometimes imagine I was listening to the radio back in 1981 in my bedroom and the DJ announces he's about to play a remix of “Party Lites” and what I would like it to sound like. I’m not looking to only remix the classic hits, it’s also about highlighting some songs that I personally love that were big on the old Toshiba.
