If you come to Sarawak, one of the bucket list is enjoying nature at Gua Niah.
Gua Niah is a limestone cave and an important prehistorical site where human remains and artifacts from 40,000 years ago have been found. This is the oldest recorded human settlement in east Malaysia. The entrance is located at the west mouth of the cave. The west mouth of the Niah Caves is 150 m wide and 75 m high.

We drove about 50 minutes from Miri City to Niah National Park Camp on wet rainy morning. You have to buy entrance ticket of RM10 per person before taking a boat to cross Niah River. A boat fee of RM1 per person each time you want to cross the river. Choosing the right shoes is crucial because the wooden walkway is slippery when wet. Also, a torchlight is necessary if you want to explore inside the dark cave as no lighting provided. Ensure that you are fit enough to walk 8km back and forth between the jetty and Gua Niah. Not forgetting, a bottle of drink water to keep you hydrated. You call buy the necesary items from traders located just before the main entrance of Gua Niah. 05:52

We have a great experience walking through the jungle to Gua Niah. Don't worry, you don't have to walk through wetland or bushes because there is plank walkway all the way from the jetty to Gua Niah. Enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna, fresh air and rare limestone structure.
