Nowadays coffee is a tradition spread worldwide, but it should not be forgotten that the traditional caffè espresso originates in Italy.
Espresso coffee has “very Italian origins”, both as regards the espresso makers and for the production methods. The machines and techniques that nowadays are so common in Italy are the result of the improvement of a prototype that was introduced to the Paris World Expo in 1855.
The markets where the most exports of such Italian products are were found to be the following, in decreasing order:

France
Germany
Russia
Greece
Romania
Brazil
Followed by: Austria, Lithuania, Poland and Holland.
Moreover, sales in the Chinese and South Korean market are strongly increasing (+50.9%).

Counting about 800 companies involved in its manufacturing, Italy is currently the second producer in Europe (only second to Germany), in terms of production and export volume of roasted coffee.
