'Judges reached the right decision': Julian Assange wins right to appeal US extradition
Julian Assange has been granted permission to appeal his extradition to the US after arguing he won’t be able to rely on his right to free speech in a US court.
His wife, Stella Assange, told supporters that the WikiLeaks founder was 'relieved' when the decision was reached.
But the 52-year-old is pleading for US President Joe Biden to drop the case in a five-year legal battle that could have seen Assange swiftly extradited had the appeal been denied.
Assange is wanted by Washington for publishing hundreds of thousands of secret US documents from 2010 as head of the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks.
Several of these documents revealed alleged war crimes committed by US military personnel in Iraq.
