Overnight on Amtrak's California Zephyr to Nebraska and Iowa -- Trains, trains, and more trains

We left from Denver's Union Station on Amtrak's California Zephyr train to head out to Omaha, Nebraska -- our 21st state we've visited together.

After arriving in Omaha we had a short stay at the Moxy by Marriot in the cities center. We then spent the day site seeing the city of Omaha going to the Durham Museum, Gene Leahy Mall, The Rivers Edge Park, Enjoying some delicious food and ice cream, crossing the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian bridge into Council Bluffs Iowa (our 22nd state together!) and back. In Council Bluffs, we enjoyed seeing the Union Pacific Railroad museum. It was a very short trip to both states but we really enjoyed both of them (Nebraska was much better in our opinion though).

As for our journey on Amtrak's California Zephyr -- We notice everyone loves to complain about Amtrak — “it’s too slow,” “too expensive,” “coach is uncomfortable.” But honestly? Coach class on Amtrak might be one of the most underrated travel experiences in America.

You get legroom that makes airline seats look like medieval torture devices, you can walk around whenever you want, and you actually see the country — mountains, small towns, sunsets — not just clouds or highway exits.

Amtrak Coach is also EXTREMELY affordable compared to the cost of a flight these days!!
