Yet they were not without purpose.
Their work was appointed.
They would ascend and descend
with strengthening balm from glory.
They would minister to the Son of God
in His darkest hours.
They would act a part in His resurrection.
And they would guard the subjects of grace
from unseen dangers.
The plan had been devised.
The Father had accepted it.
With holy sadness,
Jesus comforted them.
He told them that those He redeemed
would one day be with Him.
Through His death,
He would ransom many.
Through His obedience,
He would restore what had been lost.
The Father would give Him
the kingdom and the greatness of the kingdom
under the whole heaven.
And peace would reign forever.
