Bhutan king's plan to turn sleepy town into 'South Asia economic hub' | The Hindu

Bhutan plans to build the Gelephu “mindfulness” mega-city project, an economic hub, covering an area of 1000 square kilometres

On December 17th, the National Day of Bhutan, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck announced that the project be the world’s first alternative “carbon-negative” Special Economic Zone

The announcement comes at a time when an increasing number of people have been migrating to other countries in search of jobs
