Seikilos' Song

Seikilos' Song is the oldest surviving musical composition in the world. It is an epitaph of text and musical notation carved on a marble tombstone sometime between the third century BC and first century AD. In 1883, it was discovered on the site of Tralles, Turkey. The text says:

While you live, shine
have no grief at all
life exists only for a short while
and time demands an end.

And is signed from Seikilos to Euterpe – probably his wife.
