External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that China is poised to give the United States strong competition in multiple areas — a development he called “instructive for a country like India.” Emphasizing India’s independent foreign policy, he said India has never aligned with any bloc, even when weaker, and sees no reason to do so now. Jaishankar also noted that recent global behaviour of certain countries has reinforced India’s case for strategic autonomy.
