Sacramento Weir expansion doubles width to ease flood risk

Sacramento is moving forward with a $1.6 billion flood control project to strengthen levees and expand the Sacramento Weir, part of a broader effort to address the region’s high flood risk. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the work, fully funded through the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, will continue through 2027. Upgrades include reinforcing levees along the Sacramento River, adding three miles of improvements in West Sacramento, and doubling the width of the century-old weir to reduce pressure on aging flood infrastructure.
