I found a 1700s homesite way out in the woods of New Hampshire that was isolated from the rest of the village. I call it the lone square site because there is only a one acre plot squared in with a stone wall and a cellar hole. I took my Garrett ATGOLD metal detector out there and start digging up 1700s relics. This is colonial site no doubt with the dandy buttons and pewter spoons I found.
Finding these old foundations in New England is a great experience that takes time and lots of exploring and reading the land. walking the old stone walls is key but this one was disconnected from all the rest so I had to find it buried in the filled in forest. It appears these settlers did not have much money because of the iron items I was finding. Iron shoe buckles and Tombac buttons where the less expensive options for the era .
A successful day finding the site, mapping it and digging up artifacts for preservation.
