What followed was not an organised battle in the traditional sense, but a violent collapse of order: street fighting, reprisals, executions, and civilians caught in the middle as the war’s final hours turned into a bloodbath. Some formations attempted breakout routes to reach American lines, while others held their ground in defiance, convinced that surrender to the Soviets meant certain death.
