Created by ancient lava (basalt) flows, the 3,300 acre North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve, located approximately 7 miles north of the town of Oroville and nearby Oroville Reservoir in Northern California, is an elevated basalt mesa with spectacular vistas of spring wildflowers, numerous waterfalls, lava outcrops, and a rare type of vernal pool, called Northern Basalt Flow Vernal Pools.
