First Liftoff of the Snowbird
On October 12, 2009 the Snowbird lifted off for the first time, beginning it's extensive series of flight tests that would culminate in a 19.3 second sustained flight in 2009.
The Snowbird was designed and constructed by a team of students from the University of Toronto. On August 2nd 2010 it sustained both altitude and airspeed for 19.3 seconds, becoming the world's first successful human-powered ornithopter.
