The EOS M is Canon's first entry into the fast-growing Mirror-Less Camera market. The EOS M has an APS-C sized sensor and a DIGIC 5 Processor like Canon's Pro-sumer DSLRs
Here are some things to consider when buying a Canon EOS M:
DSLR Quality, Yet Much Smaller: The biggest selling point of the Canon EOS M is its small physical size. It is much more compact than a DSLR like the Canon T5i or the Nikon D3100 and weighs approximately half of what a DSLR weighs. Nevertheless, the little Canon EOS M takes pictures and videos that are comparable to what you would get from a DSLR. This is because the EOS M shares its sensor and processor with its bigger DSLR cousins.
Manual Focus for Video: The auto-focus on the EOS M is painfully slow for video. So if you are upgrading from a camcorder, you might wan't get some practice shooting with the Manual focus ring on the EOS M. However, due to some firmware updates, the auto-focus for still images has improved and is now usable.
You Can Use All Your Old Glass: If you've invested in Canon EF-S lenses over the years, there is good news. You can buy a proprietary EF-M lens adapter to use all your EF-S lenses with the EOS M. And the EF-S lenses work just as they would with your other Canon DSLR.
Better Grip, Please!: Canon really needs to work on its hand-grips for the EOS M. The front grip is terribly small and awkwardly placed and this makes the dense little camera a bit awkward to keep stable. Some ways around this are to use a tripod, pistol grip or monopod.
Bring Your Own Flash: The Canon EOS M does not have a built-in flash, just a hot-shoe mount. So if you are going to use a flash, you'll need to buy an external flash. We've put one such flash in the buying options below.
No Viewfinder or Articulating Screen: The screen on the EOS M does not rotate or flip and also doubles up as the only viewfinder you have. And this can be a bit annoying when outdoors and the sun is a bit too bright. When outdoors, its best to set the screen brightness to the highest setting, so you can see what you are shooting.
In our Canon EOS M review the EOS M we tested wass updated to the latest firmware. The EOS M offers outstanding picture quality in a much smaller package. During our Canon EOS M review we discovered that the Canon EOS M takes exceptional 1080p FULL HD Video, though the Autofocus is a bit slow. We also provide some EOS M test pictures and Canon EOS M video test.
