Dust Collection on Contractor Table Saw * Motor fully enclosed Craftsman 113.
Collect Dust, I Show How I Capture 98% Dust on a Contractor Table Saw . This Contractor Table Saw Enclosure Design has been used successfully for over a year with excellent results. I built it with scrap material but birch plywood would be a great choice. First thing I did was to build the bridge or out feed support table above the motor being sure to extend beyond the depth of the motor while its in the down position & then added another inch because I had to allow for the wood that was to eventually enclose the motor. Second I built the lower drawer that was to be used to collect the saw dust. I have a hole cut into the table saw stand below the blade so all the sawdust is directed down. I constructed a wooden drawer to collect that dust. The drawer guides between wooden tracks. The drawer extends beyond the motor but about 1/2" less then the outfeed table above, it gives me space to enclose the motor area while keeping the back mostly flush. Now the dust drawer is wide enough to clear the belt pulleys on the inside of the box. I kept the open spaces tight, with in 3/16 through out the project. After the dust drawer was made I then scribed wood to the saw above the drawer next to the belt pulley and on the opposite side (see video) Now I angled the motor & while keeping clear spaces in mind I enclosed the other side of the motor & added a back. I do not have a dust collector installed , It works good to contain the dust as a free standing unit but if I did have a shop vac installed or better yet a larger dust collector I think that would remove all the fine dust, this design is good but I guess it collects 98% of the dust but its still the 2% that gets out. As mentioned in the video I prefer using the 7 1/4 circular saw thin kerf blades for one because they are inexpensive but another reason is they create less dust & are great for cutting sheet goods.
