Glowing Orb / Vortex - Photoshop Tutorial
This is a beginner-level tutorial for creating a glowing orb with light trails, or a spinning vortex, in Photoshop CC 2015.

►FULL INSTRUCTIONS◄
1. Create a new document 2500 x 2500 @ 150DPI, black background, name the file “Glowing Orb”
2. Create a new layer and name it “Center”
3. Make sure your Rulers are visible (CTRL+R) and drag a guideline from the left ruler to the center of your image, it should snap in place
4. Drag another guideline from the top ruler to the center of the image
5. Select the Elliptical Marquee tool (M)
a. Feather=150, Anti-Alias=CHECKED, Style=Fixed Size, Width=1000, Height=1000
6. Click on the image to create the ellipse marquee, click and drag the ellipse to the center of the image
7. Select the Gradient Tool (G)
a. Color Marker #1
i. Color=e6ffec, Location=30%
ii. Color= 52ff7f, Location=60%
iii. Color= 008923, Location=100%
8. Holding down the SHIFT button, create a gradient from the center of the ellipse to just beyond the edge
9. Deselect (CTRL+D) the sphere
10. Duplicate the “Center” layer (CTRL+J) and name the new layer “1”
11. Transform Layer “1” (CTRL+T)
a. Width=120%, Height=25%
12. Duplicate layer “1” five times (CTRL+J) and rename the layers 2 thru 6
13. Hide layers 2-6 and select layer 1
14. Go to Filter – Distort – Wave
a. Number of Generators=1
b. Wavelength=998 & 999
c. Amplitude=500 & 999
d. Scale=1 & 100
e. Type=Sine, Undefined Areas=Repeat Edge Pixels
15. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=600
16. Hide layer 1 and select layer 2
17. Go to Filter – Distort – Wave
a. Number of Generators=1
b. Wavelength=600 & 601
c. Amplitude=500 & 999
d. Scale=1 & 100
e. Type=Sine, Undefined Areas=Repeat Edge Pixels
18. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=-600
19. Hide layer 2 and select layer 3
20. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=600
21. Go to Filter – Distort – Wave
a. Number of Generators=1
b. Wavelength=998 & 999
c. Amplitude=500 & 999
d. Scale=1 & 100
e. Type=Sine, Undefined Areas=Repeat Edge Pixels
22. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=700
23. Hide layer 3 and select layer 4
24. Go to Filter – Distort – Wave
a. Number of Generators=1
b. Wavelength=998 & 999
c. Amplitude=500 & 999
d. Scale=1 & 100
e. Type=Sine, Undefined Areas=Repeat Edge Pixels
25. Transform the Layer (CTRL+T) and rotate 180°
26. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=-650
27. Hide layer 4 and select layer 5
28. Go to Filter – Distort – Wave
a. Number of Generators=1
b. Wavelength=600 & 601
c. Amplitude=500 & 999
d. Scale=1 & 100
e. Type=Sine, Undefined Areas=Repeat Edge Pixels
29. Transform the Layer (CTRL+T) and rotate 180°
30. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=-650
31. Hide layer 5 and select layer 6
32. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=600
33. Go to Filter – Distort – Wave
a. Number of Generators=1
b. Wavelength=750 & 999
c. Amplitude=500 & 999
d. Scale=1 & 100
e. Type=Sine, Undefined Areas=Repeat Edge Pixels
34. Transform the Layer (CTRL+T) and rotate 180°
35. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=700
36. Unhide all layers
37. Move the “Center” layer to the top of the layers panel
38. Select the “Center” layer and layers 1-6 and group them together
39. Change the Group Style from “Pass Through” to “Screen”
40. Duplicate the Group
41. Rotate the second Group
42. Merge both groups together (CTRL+E) and name the new layer “Glowing Orb”
Congratulations! You've created a glowing orb with light trails, or a spinning vortex!

34. Transform the Layer (CTRL+T) and rotate 180°
35. Go to Filter – Distort – Twirl
a. Angle=700
