A Day at the World's Largest Bird Park

If you ever come to the north-west of Germany: visit the Vogelpark Walsrode: first-class entertainment with sensational flying shows, a beautiful botanical garden and a blossoming sea of flowers.

In this park, one of the most beautiful in north Germany, you can admire over 4,200 birds from all the Earth's climate zones. There are water features with background music, historical fountains, themed gardens, waterfalls, large aviaries and tropical greenhouses.

Highlights include penguin feeding time, cooing over the babies in the bird rearing station, the entertaining and educational indoor show 'Das Ei des Kolumbus' (Columbus's Egg) and the spectacular flying demonstration, the only one of its kind in Europe.

What's more, this zoological garden is gaining an ever greater reputation for horticulture. From March onwards, you'll be overwhelmed by the sight of millions of flowering bulbs in myriad colours, and by the time the 100,000 tulips are in bloom, you could be forgiven for thinking you're in Holland.

During May and June, when the rhododendrons and azaleas are in flower, the park is a riot of colours. Then in the summertime a heady perfume fills the air, as thousands of roses, the kitchen garden, the scented garden, the stone garden and the fuchsia garden all hit their peak.
