Imagine a tortoise that has been alive for almost 200 years! 😳

Meet Jonathan, the oldest known living land animal on Earth.
Born around 1832 in the Seychelles, Jonathan has lived through an incredible amount of history.

When Jonathan was about 50 years old, he was transported by ship to St. Helena Island and gifted to the Governor. At that time there were no airplanes and no modern ships, only long sea journeys that took months.

For most of his life, Jonathan peacefully roamed the Governor’s garden, enjoying sunshine and calm surroundings.

Today, Jonathan is about 194 years old (2026) and holds the Guinness World Record as the oldest living land animal on Earth.

Even though he is now blind and cannot smell, he still recognizes people through voice and touch.
