BEEKEEPING: Honeybee Allergy, Anaphylactic Shock

#81: Unfortunately, beekeepers can have an increased chance of becoming allergic to honey bee venom. I received another bee sting recently that caused a second dramatic episode of anaphylactic shock. Because I didn't have difficulty breathing the first time, I didn't realize I had gone into anaphylaxis. Then I learned it is limited to the airways. Thankfully, it was not more life threatening this time either. Made a trip to the doctor and got epipens, and an appointment to see an immunologist. Eventually, this will mean venom immunotherapy treatment that will hopefully lead to nearly complete desensitization to bee venom. So among other things, we have to move our beehives out of the garden and to a more remote location on the farm. +AMDG
