Aristotle Was Wrong About Everything
In *De Anima*, Aristotle claimed the heart—not the brain—does all thinking. He believed heavier objects fall faster than light ones. He thought mice spontaneously generated from grain. He was spectacularly wrong about the natural world. Yet Aristotle remains the most influential scientist in history. He left Plato's Academy to champion direct observation, pioneering the scientific method itself—and somehow got nearly everything factually wrong. His four-cause framework dominated intellectual life for two millennia through formal logic alone. So how does a systematic observer fail so completely? The answer reveals something deeper than error: Aristotle's real genius wasn't his conclusions—it was his method of asking questions. He taught us how to clarify what kind of question we're asking before we answer it. Wrong about the heart, wrong about falling objects, wrong about mice. But wrong inside a framework that enabled being right. Part of the Philosophy Insights series. Did Aristotle's errors matter more than his method—or did his method matter infinitely more?
