Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5 in E minor Op. 64 | European Union Youth Orchestra & Gianandrea Noseda

Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony in E minor in a really young interpretation: It is played by the European Union Youth Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. The live recording took place at the Young Euro Classic Festival in 2018 at the Konzerthaus Berlin. This particular concert stands out for the level of skill but also for how much the musicians are obviously enjoying playing their instruments together. You can really feel how much fun they're having.

The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) has existed for more than 40 years. The EUYO brings together the best musicians from all EU countries, aged between 14 and 24. The orchestra's concerts are crowd pullers, not least because the young musicians play with the world's most famous conductors - here with Gianandrea Noseda.

Peter Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony in E minor is also popular with the public. After his 4th Symphony in 1877, Tchaikovsky initially had no intention of composing another symphony. But more than 10 years later he wrote down his Symphony No. 5 in only a few weeks and then conducted its premiere on November 17, 1888. Right at the beginning of the first movement the so-called fate motif is heard, which becomes characteristic for the entire 5th Symphony. But whether Tchaikovsky's Symphony 5 really pursues the program of a "Schicksalssymphony" is disputed. What is undisputed, however, is the rank that the 5th Symphony occupies among Tchaikovsky's 6 symphonies.
