At the start of the new year many people set new years resolutions. But a lot of people fail to realise their goals as they have no system or processes to help them achieve them.

How to set goals and achieve them, I use the following 7 part method when setting a goal.

These 7 parts create a SMARTER way to set goals and achieve them;
Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
Achievable (agreed, attainable).
Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
Time bound (time-based, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).
Evaluated (Assessed to determine fit for purpose)
Reviewed (Regular reviewed to assess its state and priority)

Around this I have a process using an excel workbook and supporting worksheets that enable me to evaluate and review my goals and associated tasks (enablers) to break that goal into manageable chunks. My annual goals are broken down into quarterly goals which are further broken down into monthly goals. I then create a tasks that I put on my weekly planner to achieve those monthly goals.

I focus on identifying the one thing I want to get done that day that will make everything else easier or unnecessary. I was inspired by the book "The One Thing" by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan to use their advice and build it into my own system to enhance the way I set priorities.
