Dzhokhar Dudaev former Soviet Air Force general and Chechen leader, the first president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Was killed for his resistance fighting russian invaders.
The order to assassinate Dzhokhar Dudayev was issued personally by Russian President Boris Yeltsin. On April 21, 1996, officers from Russia's Federal Counterintelligence Service intercepted a signal from Dzhokhar Dudayev's satellite phone near the village of Gehi-Chu, 30 kilometers from the city of Grozny. Because of this, two Su-25 planes with missiles were immediately launched into the air. Dudayev died from a rocket explosion during a telephone conversation with the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Borov.

Several people who organized this operation, including the head of the Air Force V. Mikhailov, became heroes of Russia.
