The Mystery of the Disappearing Rio Grande #shorts #trending #usa

Did you know the U.S. border isn't as permanent as it looks on a map? 🗺️📉

In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo fixed the U.S.-Mexico border along the Rio Grande. But there was one huge problem: the river wouldn't stay still. In 1864, a sudden flood shifted the river's course, moving over 240 hectares of U.S. land to the Mexican side. This created a disputed zone known as El Chamizal.

For a century, the U.S. refused to give it up, but in 1962, an international ruling forced Washington to hand the land back to Mexico. And it happened again in 1906 when Texan farmers accidentally shifted the river for irrigation! 🚜🌊

Watch to find out how nature (and a little help from farmers) changed the map of America forever.
