Die Gedanken sind frei is one of the oldest German traditional folk songs sang here partly in German and partly in English.
The song was written in the 1200s and over the years used as a protest song.
The title of the song means "thoughts are free" and was probably first brought to English and American audiences by the legendary folk singer Peter Seeger many years ago. Freedom fighters have sung this song for many, many years. Musically, it is of great historical importance.
