Relationships After Rape | Shelby St. Pierre | TEDxHamlineUniversity
Rape affects not just the survivor, but the people around them. What matters is how you are there for the survivor after they open up to you about their rape. It is never easy knowing what to say or how to act around a survivor who has been through something that doesn’t make any sense--like rape. However, Shelby St. Pierre discusses how if you respond to them by believing and supporting them, you might help them keep going.
Shelby Lynn St. Pierre (she/her/hers) graduated from Hamline University with a B.A. in Legal Studies, a Paralegal Certificate, and Minor in Religion. St. Pierre plans to go to law school, gain experience in helping others using her J.D., she eventually wants to teach in higher education. During her first year of college, she was raped. Now she talks about what she has learned and shares advice to the family and friends of survivors.
