How to replace the turbo cartridge in 1.6HDi/TDCi engines (90bhp)

If you car produces blue smoke on cold startup, a leaky turbo could be the reason. This is what is called a turbo rebuild.

This video is how to replace the turbo cartridge in 1.6HDi or 1.6TDCi engines. The video will only show how to replace the actual turbo cartridge, without how to take the turbo from the car and put it back together.
It is not really too difficult, but cleanliness has to be observed throughout. Make sure you blow all the parts with compressed air before putting the turbo together. You would not want small bits blowing around.
The full procedure to replace the turbo is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7S0qDBo314 (1/5). My car is a Peugeot Partner 2007, 9HXC engine, 90bhp, 66kW (same as a Citroen Berlingo). The turbo is a wastegated turbo, not the VNT type. This goes with the 110bhp 1.6HDi engines. This particular turbo has the following numbers:

TD025S2-06T4
P/N: 9682881380
S/N: 07S253120
MHI: 49173-07506

The number that you need is 49173-07506 or 0375Q4 to order a new cartridge.

The crucial things you need are circlip pliers. I had bought the US PRO 4" pliers, but get the 9" (amazon UK): https://amzn.to/3jL5NaU or ebay: https://ebay.us/hwsagE
You would also need a small hammer and some carb cleaner, e.g. (amazon UK): https://amzn.to/33xTaHh or ebay: https://ebay.us/MEKvAH
Some metal brushes to clean the turbo, e.g. (amazon UK): https://amzn.to/3jMF8u7 or ebay: https://ebay.us/F0ihQ3
Wear protection when using stuff for cleaning parts, I am using this particular mask (amazon UK): https://amzn.to/3bMY9IS or ebay: https://ebay.us/fm7IW4 and it has been amazing.
And of course a new turbo cartridge. The new turbo cartridge has to come with a rubber o-ring for the compressor side. Also, you may want to buy a gasket for the oil return. In addition, if the outer casing of the turbo is intact, i.e. the rotor sides are undamaged, then you can re-use them and you would not need to adjust the wastegate actuator arm. The new turbo cartridge should be calibrated, so no need to do anything else. But, the turbo banjo bolt may need the filter inside removed and potentially the oil sump pickup filter cleaned. The new cartridge should pass oil no less than 300ml per minute.

Good Luck!
