Climbing Kilimanjaro | Machame Route 2021
We decided to climb Kilimanjaro on the Machame Route in February 2021. This video is about one of the greatest journey’s of our lives…climbing to the top of Africa. We will take you on our 6 day trek so that you can find out if climbing Kilimanjaro is really worth it!
0:00 - Intro
1:33 - Day One
2:30 - Day Two
4:00 - Day Three
5:17 - Day Four
7:19 - Day Five
11:03 - Day Six
We’ve gone on many adventures before including treks into canyons, up mountains, and across snowy plains. When we first arrived in Tanzania, we weren’t convinced if climbing Kilimanjaro was really worth it. The journey is expensive, a long time commitment, physically demanding, and takes time to plan. But none of that should deter you. If you go on regular walks without getting out of breath, have any hiking experience, and are even just slightly kili-curiuos . Then you need to get to Tanzania and get on this mountain. Each day is different from the tropical rainforest, to the morelands, to the alpine desert, to the snowy summit . Every day is full of surprises from the sunsets, the landscapes, but most importantly the people. You will meet the most wonderful people on the planet with the most amazing stories.. From your team of guides, porters, and cooks to other climbers, the friendships you create on this mountain are magical. I am convinced that this is one of the best journeys in the world. Whether you are the first one to the top, struggling and sore the whole time, or don’t even make it to the summit, this mountain will push everyone physically and mentally in such a different way. Climbing Kilimanjaro will allow you to explore your own limits while being in one of the most beautiful places on earth with incredible people to support you.
We're vegan, so we also shared what we ate during the trip. Some common Tanzania foods that are vegan are: ugali (maize or cassava flour porridge), chipsi (french fries), mchicha (spinach), mboga (vegetables with coconut milk, peanut butter, tomatoes, and onions), chapati, cooked cabbage, bananas, rice, beans, lentils. Knowing some local vegan dishes can help when communicating to your guide what food the chef should prepare for you.
We originally were going to do 7 days but since we were feeling good and the weather was right, we decided to do 6 instead.
We had a great time climbing the mountain with African Natural Tours and with our guides Gabrel and Issac!
