You can't bump into a CAD drawing.

That's one of the reasons I always like to mock up part of a garden before it's built.

For this year's Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show, I've built a section of the dry stone wall and started introducing some of the planting. Not because the drawings aren't good enough, but because some decisions can only be made by standing in the space.

Can you comfortably move through it? Does the wall sit naturally in the landscape? Do the plants create the feeling you imagined?

A drawing can answer dimensions. A mock-up answers experience.

It's a small investment of time that gives me confidence before build week begins.
