This selection is from the eight-album series Dmitry Kabalevsky: The Complete Works for Solo Piano. Kabalevsky (1904–1987) was a prolific composer who wrote in a modern but approachable idiom, featuring traditional tonal forms and folk-music influences. His solo piano music spans a tremendous range, from the many delightful miniatures that he wrote for children to his spectacular, virtuosic concert pieces.
