Joel Casamayor is a retired Cuban professional boxer who competed from 1996 to 2011. He was born on July 12, 1971, in Guantánamo, Cuba.

Casamayor had an accomplished amateur career, winning a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, as well as gold medals at the 1993 and 1995 Pan American Games. He turned professional in 1996 and won his first world title in 2000, when he defeated the undefeated American boxer, Robert Garcia, to win the WBA super featherweight championship.

Casamayor went on to win world titles in two more weight classes, the WBC lightweight title and the WBO super featherweight title. He was known for his technical skills, defensive abilities, and counter-punching.

Casamayor retired from professional boxing in 2011 with a record of 38 wins (22 by knockout), 6 losses, and 1 draw. After his retirement, he worked as a trainer and coach, including coaching the Cuban national boxing team.
