A name that stuck because of his preferred work attire, a black trouser, Mr. Rajendran’s ‘Trouser Kadai’ (Kamatchi Mess) is the sort of nondescript eatery that may not beget a second look when you walk past it in Mandaveli, Chennai. However, that doesn't seem to deter its diehard fans in the least who have been flocking here for the last 45 years to savour the meaty fare that he cooks over a wood-fired stove. I visited him just before lunch hour on a Saturday to watch the making of some of the dishes, before sitting down for an enjoyable meal comprising mutton chukka, vanjaram fry, kola urundai and a scrumptious kola urundai.
