When Does It Count?

A look at various people who have been credited will summiting even though they died on the descent. The most famous first summit, that of the Matterhorn, credits call seven climbers with reaching the summit even though four perished on the descent. It appears that anyone who reaches the summit is credited with a summit regardless of whether they perish on the descent, and the so-call "rule" that it only counts if you make it back alive has never actually been used.
