Kagerou Days | Bristlefrost PMV (Warrior Cats)

HOO BOY BIG BOY PROJECT TIME I'M SO PROUD OF THIS U GUYS HAVE NO IDEA.

Sorry for such a dry spell in uploads, like I said in my summary video I didn't get a ton of animation done in the last 4ish months partially because of animation block and other priorities, but also BECAUSE OF THIS BAD BOY. Ive been chipping away at this since the end of November. I got the idea after watching @forestwhisker and @cheesecakewitch's Additional Memory MV, which made me go listen to Kagerou Project songs and then because I had Bristlefrost and ALITM in my brain I suddenly got this idea SO CLEARLY (I didn't have my tablet for like a week so i frantically scribbled a storyboard in a note pad lol.)

Anyways I'm here to ramble about my creative choices now lol. Firstly, I decided to add an extra moment that didn't happen in the book where Ashfur actually manages to escape and break the surface of the water, giving Bristlefrost the choice to also escape and hope Ashfur dies another way or double down and sacrifice herself. I didn't really understand why neither Ashfur nor bristle could get out the water when Rootspring did? So yeah always down to make more active protagonists. ALSO! My headcannon/interpretation of the evil dark forest water is the living cats who die in the water drown, but the main kicker of the water is that it destroys your spirit by literally ripping it to shreds. That's why we see Bristlefrost momentarily become a Starclan spirit after drowning before the water drags her back down to destroy her. I had a lot of fun working with the canon material but exploring it to a deeper level than they went into.

The Dark forest's color palette is based on the original music video, except instead of pure black and white I used full range greyscale bc I needed stuff to work with lol. It was nice because most of the characters already had greyish colors except rootspring which makes the switch to the living world even more visually striking. I decided to only have him in color (well bris too, fun fact the yellow parts of her fur are the same yellows on rootsprings cuz they're like connected and in love or whatever) and everything else be pure black and white to portray his grief and a general disconnect from the living world after being through the horrors of the dark forest as if he brought the way he saw the world there back with him.
