The Deltahet gets SSB
Added an ECH81 BFO and product detector to resolve SSB on the new Deltahet. This uses the triode section with a small ceramic resonator at 450kc to furnish the CIO, the heptode used as mixer number 5 .
By disabling the CIO, the heptode then becomes an anode bend detector for AM. Not perfect yet, but close. Limited during daytime by weak and sparodic signals on the Pacific aircraft net on 8867, and bad interference from the solar controllers. The signal into the product detector is slightly high, causing some overload and limiting. Added a quick view inside the workshop, and the nice quiet country surroundings where i live, West Coast South Island New Zealand, while waiting for those weak and sparodic transmissions from the aircraft net on 8867................ patience is a virtue Im told.
I may just fix the CIO in the center of the IF passband and forget any CIO upper/lower shift, as this allows AM synch to occur without any added switching. SSB is not my primary interest. There is still a birdie inside the 1 meg tuning range, have yet to identify the source of this one. Being a triple conversion design, birdies are a concern and can be difficult to identify their source , Im picking I need more selectivity in the 37.5 meg IF. The 2/3 meg VFO is still a little drifty, despite being slugged with over 600pFs of capacitance, but hardly suprising given the thermal change from cold. This needs revisiting. More under chassis ventilation may help.
