Paula Rego at Tate Britain
Paula Rego was born in Portugal and later trained in London where she has spent most of her life making paintings influenced by contemporary politics, folklore, fairy tales and the struggle for women's rights. These often large or multi-panelled paintings are rich in suggestion and narrative. Often resembling the illustration of dreams, Rego's paintings are both enchanting and troubling. Attached to figuration in her mature work, these images are populated by dramatic characters and mysterious relationships that often allude to family life. Grace and Joshua visit a large retrospective of her career at Tate Britain where they try to make sense of these bold and unforgettable paintings.
