China's Evolving LGBTQI+ Movements

How are LGBTIQ+ movements in China evolving in the face of heightened governmental restrictions and societal backlash?

This event explores how activists are reimagining advocacy, maintaining solidarity, and building resilience under increasingly restrictive conditions. Drawing on the lived experiences of advocates who have fought diligently for LGBTIQ+ rights for decades, the conversation unpacks the strategies used to navigate digital censorship, legal crackdowns, and societal stigma.

Organized by the Global LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Program at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and moderated by Diego Garcia Blum, Director of the Global LGBTQI+ Human Rights Program.
The views expressed in this video are those of the speaker(s) at the time of recording and do not necessarily reflect those of the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights or Harvard Kennedy School. These perspectives have been presented to encourage debate on important public policy challenges.
