There are a lot of Roman remains in this area and a constant feeling that there is a wild Teuton is going to jump out of some corner of the forest any second. Here are some history🗡 facts for the interested:

From 58 BC, the Romans came to the edge of the Black Forest for the first time. Only after the crossing of the Alps and the subjugation of the Helvetians on the territory of today's Switzerland at the beginning of the first century, the Black Forest was also settled by the Romans on its fringes.

In the fifth century BC the Celts came from the northwest. They settled along the Rhine, but hardly ventured into the forest. Similarly cautious were the Romans, who then appeared and settled the valley cuts. They gave the Black Forest the name: "Silva Nigra". In the third century AD, the Romans were driven out by the Alemanni - a wild tribe of people who went murdering and burning through the countryside, destroying many beautiful Roman settlements, but also creating homesteads, which then became villages.
