So I have had some time to test this product and I wan to provide my honest opinion.
Let me start by telling you what I like about this product. I like the HD graphics and interface. This product looks as if Tesla designed it. I have seen similar products that have 720P or lower display and they don’t look like they belong in a beautiful Tesla. This one feels very seamless and is for sure a well built and well thought out product. An example of this is the autopilot warning. The color of the steering wheel changes when the autopilot starting alerting you to keep your hands on the steering wheel. It goes through different colors and finally shows the red steering wheel when autopilot puts you in a timeout.
I really like how I can now see my battery range and percentage in the same screen. I think it is pretty annoying Tesla makes you select either the miles or percentage.
I honestly enjoyed and used the speedometer function way more than I thought I was going to. In the last 2 years, I had forgotten about having a display in front of me. I actually liked it and thought it was useful. Since the last holiday update, the gear settings have been shrunk to very little icons. Sometime it is hard to see if you are in park, drive etc. This product has a big display of which gear you are in. Especially folks who have vision problems might appreciate having the gear icon right infront of them. It is also really cool you have the speed limit and turn signal icon in big and right infront of you. I like that the 2 USB C plugs are powered and in a very useful location. I also like the fact that they have plans for software updates.
But is this product for everyone? Absolutely not. This for folks who came from traditional cars with instrument cluster Infront of them, including Model X and Model S and they enjoyed having things like speedometer in front of their eyes instead of having to look towards the right. This is also for people like myself who love customizing their cars. I am always looking to make my Tesla better and different and this product works great for that purpose.
