03131 1Consumer Alert: FCCPC Investigates Airline, Baby Formula, Pharmaceutical Pricing

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has concluded preliminary investigations into high airline airfares during the 2025 Yuletide season, with the potential to mandate affected airlines to refund passengers for excess charges.

Speaking at a “Meet the Press” briefing organized by the Presidential Media Team, the Executive Vice Chairman, Tunji Bello, described the situation as a possible case of collusion among airlines aimed at price fixing.

The FCCPC is also investigating pricing practices in baby formula, pharmaceuticals, cement, and other essential goods following consumer complaints.

While Nigeria operates a free-market economy, the FCCPC emphasized that it will intervene to protect consumers from exploitation or unfair market practices, ensuring fairness and transparency across sectors.
