As the leader of the Baye Fall Muslim religion of Senegal, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1853-1927) is considered one of the greatest spiritual leaders in Senegalese history. During the French colonialism, Bamba brought light to the people with a new out look that contradicted war upon the French and instead supported a pacifistic outlook.

Now Bamba's followers call him a "renewer"

Bamba was brought to the attention of people by Mame Sheikh Ibrahima Fall (1855-1930) who was the "servant of the messenger" as a disciple of Bamba. Without him Bamba would not have been heard.
