DIY: Reset Check Engine Light without OBDII reader

Learn how to reset your Check Engine Light (CEL) without using an OBD II 2 scanner / reader tool. Will work on just about any car. Also referred to as Service Engine Soon, and Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).

This is very general and will work on any vehicle. Not just on this Honda. If the light does turn back on, go to any auto parts store and ask them if they can read the code on the computer. This is free most of the time and will tell you where to look for the problem.

WARNING: Do not attempt to fool the company that gets you your vehicle state inspection. After resetting your computer this way, you will lose logged data. This shows up on their computer and will automatically fail the inspection. The fix? Drive it around for a while, a day or two and you will have the data back. Be warned, if you haven't fixed the issue, the light will turn back on.

2nd WARNING: As pointed out by Sam Cotts, if the problem is not fixed, the light will turn right back on.
