Long Exposure Photography | How to Take Sharp Pictures

Long exposure photography is tricky at first. So, here's some tips and a guide to how to take sharp pictures.
Check out my IG at @brendanvanson.
Here in Washington DC, I went out to shoot some long exposure photography in the blue hour of dawn. I headed to The US Capitol building which seemed like the perfect place to shoot based on the conditions. I was write. The way the clouds were, it was the perfect place to do long exposure photography.
I wanted to give some tips, as well as share my guide on how to take sharp pictures at longer exposures while out there as well. So, quickly the tips are: use a good tripod, turn off IS, lock the mirror up, and use a timer. Doing those things should help even the most beginner photographer get cool long exposure photos.
In the end, I'm really happy with the way the light worked out for me. It was actually the perfect morning and the best way to end this trip through the US east coast.
Tomorrow on the photography channel, I start my massive road trip across the US from New York to LA in just 3 1/2 days. Stay tuned!
