What does a scientist look like? Springer Nature’s photography exhibition in London

In April 2024, Springer Nature unveiled a new outdoor photography exhibition in King’s Cross to mark Earth month.

The exhibition showcases 50 portraits of scientists working on climate related projects across the world, first published in Nature’s Where I Work editorial feature. The exhibition and Nature’s feature celebrate the many roles and types of research undertaken by scientists globally, and challenge stereotypical perceptions of what a scientist does and what they look like.

Join us as we take you on a walk-through of the exhibition in London, and show you some of the portraits on display – from a 17 year old female astronaut, to the Pope’s astronomer.

The exhibition is dedicated to Karen Kaplan, launch editor of ‘Where I Work’ and fierce champion of diversity in science (1959- 2023).
