US Navy Taps AI Firm to Clear Iranian Mines in Strait of Hormuz

Traffic through the waterway has been at a near-standstill since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in late February and Tehran threatened to attack ships in the strait. Iran has said it laid mines along the most frequently used routes of the narrow waterway, and a senior US Defense Department official says clearing the strait of mines could take six months. Domino Data Lab Chief Operating Officer Thomas Robinson joins David Gura and Christina Ruffini on Bloomberg This Weekend to discuss the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect Iranian sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz to speed up and improve the accuracy of underwater mine detection while reducing reliance on human personnel.
