The documentary is produced by the Municipality of Volos and was created for tourists, and high school students who visit the city of Volos.
Argo today. The reconstruction of the mythical Argo, the emblem of the city of Volos, was the goal of it's municipality in order to regenerate the myth. This was accomplished by a project of the Institute of Navdomos using local ship carpenters. The result was the construction of a realistic version of a 50 oared prehistoric ship of the 14th century b.c. belonging to the typology of the Naval School of Epirus, known as the "long-ships" of Homer.
In the process of the construction, which lasted from 2004 to 2007, the goal was to apply the ancient ship-building techniques and to a limited extent, replicas of prehistoric bronze tools was used. After the ship's crew finished the required training, an experimental journey of 650 miles was held in eight weeks, that tested both ship and crew in facing weather and other difficulties, confirming the feasibility of a large naval operation, such as the Argonautic Expedition.
