Australian doctor warns of ‘unimaginable conditions’ as Gaza’s hospitals overflow with patients
Dr Nada Abu Al Rub, an Australian doctor working in Gaza, has described worsening humanitarian conditions following her forced evacuation from Al-Shifa Hospital in the north. The hospital, once one of Gaza’s largest medical facilities, has come under repeated attack in recent months, leaving staff and patients trapped amid heavy bombardment and siege conditions.
After being relocated to Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza, Dr Abu Al Rub said the situation remains dire. The hospital, built to accommodate around 200 patients, is now treating more than 700, many of them displaced civilians suffering from severe injuries. Medical teams have been forced to work in tents due to the lack of space and ongoing air strikes, with several medical tents hit in recent bombings.
Dr Abu Al Rub described a situation where “there is nowhere safe left” for either patients or medical workers.
